Among the speakers in this event was Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman who served as the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner. He was invited to share his knowledge of the business and some of the latest developments. Ne discussed several pressing issues, but also the opportunities that come with them.

Chief among these issues is the rapid changes in technology in places such as AI and automation. This has put low-skill jobs at risk which make up a large part of the Bangladeshi economy.

“Due to rapid technological progress, primary and secondary jobs are disappearing all over the world. Therefore, the youth should prepare themselves with communication and negotiation skills, and adequate knowledge.”

– Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner

As these jobs threaten low-skill labor everywhere, Abul has insisted that the solution cannot be immigration or outsourcing. He urged young workers to continue learning if they wish to survive in the ever-increasing job market.

“There is no alternative to acquiring skills at this age of technological advancement. Educated youth has to adapt to the evolving technology to become successful.”

– Abul Bashar Mohammed Fakhruzzaman, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner

Another issue he highlighted was the need for young workers to learn about other languages such as English. As the world becomes increasingly globalized, it becomes necessary for young workers to learn about other languages and understand different cultures as many businesses now require employees to understand English.

Towhid Hossain, the acting general secretary of Bacco understands the situation and has claimed that Bacco is working to address the issue.

“The organization aims to create one lakh jobs in the BPO sector by 2025. Currently, more than 70,000 people are working in this sector. This year, at least 1,000 jobs will be created for the young generation through the job fairs at divisional BPO summits.”

– Towhid Hossain, general secretary of Bacco

Aside from just listening to the issues presented by these different representatives, the Bacco BPO summit also acts as a job fair for aspiring BPO workers. All these members of Bacco invited young workers to bring their CVs for collection. This would allow them to sort through the papers and determine which candidates have the right qualifications for BPO work.

This provided workers across different divisional cities to dip their toes into the BPO market. They would be able to learn about the industry requirements and what they can do to increase their chances of getting hired.
