Adobe Releases New AI Assistant for Its Adobe Reader Platform

Software developer giant Adobe announced last Tuesday that they have created a new AI tool aimed at being a reading assistant for their users. Adobe claims that this tool can scan through PDFs and other files and analyze all the information provided. This will allow you to ask questions about the files without having to read them yourself.

The AI, called Acrobat is currently in its beta stage and is expected to be released in the coming weeks. It will be released on Adobe Reader, allowing users of the platform to access the tool if they purchase a certain subscription plan.

What Can Acrobat Do?

When asked what the AI can do, Adobe explains that this assistant can help you digest information from PDFs, summarizing the information and giving you all the important information. The AI does this by answering any questions you can have related to the document.

Adobe says this will be done through a “conversational interface,” which is similar to a chatbot. You will simply ask questions and converse with the AI as if it’s a normal person to get the information. They will be able to provide you with quotes, data, and citations taken from the PDF. This will also allow you to verify whether what Acrobat says is accurate or not.

Another useful function this AI has is the ability to convert sections or the entirety of the PDF into text. This can be helpful to people as it removes the need to retype the information. These written texts can even be rewritten in different formats for different mediums. You can program the AI to retype PDFs in emails, presentations, and reports.

This is far from a new feature as other AI tools like ChatGPT also make use of PDF readers for their platforms. These can help retype PDFs and summarize lengthy documents. However, these require you to upload the PDF onto their platform while Adobe already has these tools included in the platform.

The team at Adobe is very excited about this new tool, believing that it can revolutionize how people use their platforms and read PDFs.

Their CEO, Shantanu Narayen says that it takes their company one step closer to their goal of making PDFs more accessible and democratized by making it easier for users to access.

“Just imagine you’ve opened a 100-page document. You want to understand the summary, you want to have a conversation with it, you want to ask questions. You want to correlate that with other documents that you might have as well as the entire information that you have in your enterprise.”

This comes just a week after OpenAI released a new AI tool called Sora which Adobe believes is the company intruding on their territory. However, Adobe remains confident that it can maintain its leader and show users what makes its products unique. They announced that they are working on their video model, stressing its ability to help users with extra tools and speed up workflow. At the same time, they also promise that this technology will be developed responsibly and ensure that its users and other people are protected.

The geniusOS team is very excited at this news and we are looking forward to Acrobat’s release to see what the tool is capable of. If done correctly, this tool has the opportunity to speed up retyping and make research much easier for users.
