Cape Town’s BPO Excellence Takes Center Stage with ‘Sunday School’ Opening
Cape Town has established a school aimed at educating jobless kids and giving them a firsthand look at the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, as part of its ongoing investments in this thriving sector.
In Athlone, the city’s special purpose vehicle partner, CapeBPO, oversees the BPO industry’s expansion and growth, managing the BPO Sunday School, which is supported by the city.
The city has released a statement stating that jobless kids will begin a three-week intensive education, followed by open industry recruitment in the fourth week.
Among other essential abilities, it says it will cover programs aimed at conversational fluency and preparation for the workforce.
“Thanks to the city’s commitment to skills development and investment promotion of high-growth industries such as BPO, Cape Town has become an internationally sought-after location for businesses and investors in the sector.”
– James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth
“Through initiatives such as the BPO Sunday School, which is an addition to the schools programme, we are exposing school leavers to the huge opportunities available to them. In this way, we are giving young people tangible hope for a career that will go places.
According to industry projections, 500 000 new jobs are expected to be created in the BPO sector in South Africa by 2030, making it one of the most desirable locations for these organizations globally.
Among the most well-established areas in the field, Cape Town has designated the industry as a top priority for job growth.
According to the city, between July and September of this year, there were 2,993 new positions in overseas call centers. From October through December, 3 475 new jobs are expected.
“This sector now employs around 80 000 people, with 60 000 of them servicing international clients. The BPO market contributes billions of rands to Cape Town’s economy, and with new call centres popping up all across the metro, such gains will continue and the opportunities will grow.”
